The Department of Mechanical Engineering (DTU Mekanik) at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) has an open 3-year PhD position in the area of Computational Fluid Dynamics for internal combustion engines. The research project involves detailed investigations of combustion and emission characteristics using heavy fuel oil, marine diesel oil, and liquefied natural gas oil in large two-stroke marine diesel engines.
Responsibilities and tasks:
Contribute to all aspects of the developing of the turbulent chemistry interaction models and full engine simulations using Large Eddy Simulations. Also the candidate is expected to work closely with Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering at DTU to define the criteria in developing skeletal mechanisms for different fuels and evaluate their performance in CFD calculations.
The aim of the PhD project is to develop a set of approaches for supporting the management of product configuration system projects.
The project will primarily focus on the planning aspect of product configuration system projects. Often, companies implementing product configuration systems face budget and schedule overruns during the development phase of these systems, leading to the cancellation of the development projects. Therefore, there is a need for accurate estimation methods that can help companies in predicting the effort required to develop, maintain and extend these systems. The PhD candidate will have to identify the relevant factors which influence the effort estimation for product configuration system projects and use them to develop an effort estimation method.

Projektet har til formål at identificere individuelle og miljømæssige risikofaktorer for nikkelallergi.
Nikkel er den hyppigste årsag til kontaktallergi hos kvinder. Ny forskning tyder på, at nikkel binder stærkere til huden hos nikkelallergikere end ikke-allergikere. Dette kan skyldes fysisk-kemiske eller immunologiske forskelle, som tænkes kortlagt i projektet.
Det er planen at provokere nikkelallergikere med nikkelfrigivende genstande under forskellige realistiske omstændigheder med henblik på at bestemme, hvad der udløser et allergisk eksem. Der vil også indgå raske forsøgspersoner.

DTU Space (the National Danish Space Institute at the Technical University of Denmark) is offering a PhD scholarship in the area of transient astrophysics.
The successful applicant will join a newly established group led by Dr. Giorgos Leloudas focusing on the study of transient phenomena in the Universe.
We study all kinds of astrophysical transients, such as supernova explosions, with a particular interest on exotic phenomena, including superluminous supernovae, tidal disruption events and the zoo of nuclear transients, and the newly discovered electromagnetic counterparts of gravitational waves.

Two PhD Scholarships are available in the Analytical Food Chemistry Group at the National Food Institute starting 1 January 2019 or shortly thereafter. Both projects are based on chemical screening by mass spectrometry to develop insights and mitigate chemical risk from food.
Project 1: “Chemistry of Meat Processing” will focus on the known but not well understood problems attributed to processed meat
Project 2: “Chemicals Migrating from Packaging” will focus on the complex problem related to chemical migrating from food contact materials into food.

The Transport Modelling Group (TMG) of the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), Department of Management Engineering, is looking for excellent applicants to pursue PhD studies, starting in January 2019.

DTU Chemical Engineering invites applications for a 3-year PhD position in Methane production and carbon capture through hydrate swapping.
This project considers the problem of using carbon dioxide to produce the vast resources of natural gas locked up as solid gas hydrates in permafrost and oceanic margin zones.
The project will involve thermodynamic and kinetic modeling of gas hydrate systems and processes as well as molecular simulation, for example to probe the formation of CO2 hydrate and dissociation of CH4 hydrate in a production/storage scenario.

Residual stresses develop locally in materials during manufacturing and service, and are crucial for the mechanical and physical properties including strength, ductility and fatigue lifetime. To optimize the materials performance and to design advanced materials, it is therefore essential to determine non-destructively the local residual stresses and relate them to the local materials in homogeneities in 3D.
This project aims at using mainly this new technique supplemented by synchrotron techniques to quantify for the first time systematically the level of local residual stresses and to investigate their influence on the mechanical properties of multiphase materials.
