Thesis: Design a tool for tightening screws with no visibility

If you seek to make a difference on a global scale, working with next-gen technologies and the sharpest collaborative teams, then we could be a perfect match.  Thesis Project Description The Volvo Trucks Plant in Tuve, Gothenburg, produces heavy trucks for the global market. The high variation in specification between the trucks produced creates many challenges for the process and with the introduction of electric trucks on the assembly line the complexity of the process has increased even further.  The recently launched FML model creates new challenges to the assembly process due to its unique low front design. Task: The new Volvo FML has a middle bumper that is attached by screws that are only accessible from underneath the vehicle. There is a wish to perform this assembly on the main line but it is not possible to perform the task with acceptable ergonomic postures. The students shall, in collaboration with the engineering team and the tool designers in Tuve, design an equipment that (using an existing screw tightening tool) can allow the operator to tighten the screws hidden under the front of the vehicle while working in a posture acceptable according to the Volvo Ergonomic Guidelines.  We require the work to be performed by a team of two students. The students are expected to spend most of the time on-site, collaborating with the engineering, maintenance, and production staff. Therefore, we require at least one student to speak Swedish.
